Jalapeno Crusted Grilled Cheese with Turkey and Apple

, cognitive dishonance food blog

  • 4 slices thick crusty bread such as sourdough
  • 1 tbs honey
  • 4 tbs softened butter
  • 1 small jalapeno pepper – sliced vertically into round pieces and seeded
  • 1 cup of Vermont cheddar cheese, grated and divided in half (you can use yellow cheddar too)
  • 4 slices roasted turkey breast (I like to use a bacon crusted turkey breast found at the deli counter, it adds another layer of flavor)
  • 4 slices thinly sliced apple

  1. In a small bowl, mix the honey and butter, spread on all four slices of bread.
  2. Firmly press two to three of the jalapeno rounds into the buttered sides of the bread until they stick.
  3. Place one of the bread slices, buttered side down, into a pan over medium heat.
  4. Top with two slices of turkey and two slices of apple.
  5. Top with ½ c of cheddar cheese.
  6. Place the other slice of bread on top of the sandwich, buttered side up.
  7. Cook about three to four minutes, until the bottom side is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt. Flip the sandwich over and cook the other side until it’s golden brown.
  8. Remove from heat and enjoy!
